Of course, it’s possible and trendy to keep certain walls bare of any surface covering.  But, in general, we prefer to have a smooth finish to cover brick, stone and cement blocks.  This creates a certain psychological comfort, not only greater insulation.  And a serene backdrop for hanging our favourite pictures or other wall ornaments.

For those who have researched – or seen examples of Venetian plaster work – this particular variety has earned a lot of respect for its obvious superiority.  A heritage product from a favoured part of the Mediterranean, it not only emanates INTEGRITY but an inner lustre that reflects its high-quality composition.

A typical basic plaster cannot achieve this effect. It can fulfil only a basic function.

So, whether you are starting afresh, completing a major renovation, constructing a new washroom – or merely creating a feature wall – it is recommended to do some thorough research into the wide range of products available on today’s market.  If you want the best for your domestic environment and the needs of your family, it is likely you’ll choose Venetian plastering for optimum effect and the best sustainable solution.

The following plasters are available at most retail outlets, offering their specific advantages and disadvantages:

Gypsum plaster (‘plaster of Paris’) can come in a fast setting, all-in-one mix useful for surface repairs or for moulding decorative 3-D ceiling details

Lime plaster of a non-hydraulic variety takes much longer to set and is more flexible/breathable.

Clay plaster – good ec0-credentials, toxicity-free but not waterproof, textured.

Cement plaster combined with alum creates a high gloss smooth white finish.

Acoustic plaster with gas bubbles expanding into honeycomb structures to absorb unwanted noise.

Barium plaster which protects from harmful X-rays inside hospitals …

Pebble & flint render, with stones added onto an exterior surface.

*Cashmere mountain goat hair can also be purchased in current times to ‘tease’ into plaster mixes for maximum strength – and a truly organic finish …

And don’t forget your Elasto-plasters … just in case!
